Combining Multiple Texture Mappings Using Surface Flattening
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper we present a novel method to combine partial texture mappings of arbitrary surfaces by using surface flattening. Partial texture maps can be obtained from optical images of an object acquired from different viewpoints. Combining optical images into a complete texture map that covers the entire object is not trivial. Surface flattening preserves the structure of a 3D mesh and converts it into the 2D space. Optical images can be converted to flattening based surface maps that can be merged based on the structure of the mesh. This paper describes the flattening and the merging methods and shows results on synthetic and real data.

Creating Entirely Textured 3D Models of Real Objects Using Surface Flattening
We present a novel method to create entirely textured 3D models of real objects by combining partial texture mappings using surface flattening (surface parametrisation). Texturing a 3D model is not trivial. Texture mappings can be obtained from optical images, but usually one image is not sufficient to show the whole object; multiple images are required to cover the surface entirely. Merging pa...
متن کاملData Fusion for Photorealistic 3D Models
This study aims at building photorealistic 3D models of realworld objects. We discuss the problem of combining a 3D textureless model obtained by 3D scanner, with optical images that provide textural information of the object. Recently, we have proposed a novel method to register an uncalibrated image pair to a 3D surface model. After registration, the images are mapped to the surface. However,...
متن کاملNon-Distorted Texture Mapping Using Angle Based Flattening
This article introduces a new method for surface parameterization for texture mapping. In the first step of the algorithm we compute a planar triangulation of the faceted surface, using an Angle Based Flattening (ABF) formulation. This provides a mapping function from a three-dimensional surface to the plane. The ABF formulation defines the flattening problem as a constrained minimization probl...
متن کاملTexture Mapping Using Surface Flattening via Multidimensional Scaling
We present a novel technique for texture mapping on arbitrary surfaces with minimal distortions, by preserving the local and global structure of the texture. The recent introduction of the fast marching method on triangulated surfaces [9], made it possible to compute geodesic distances in O(~ n lg ~ n) where ~ n is the number of triangles that represent the surface. We use this method to design...
متن کاملA Field Interpolated Texture Mapping Algorithm for Skeletal Implicit Surfaces
We address the problem of texture mapping implicit surfaces. Recent work in providing 2D mappings for implicit surfaces maps points from an auxiliary parametric (support) surface to the implicit surface. In this work we extend this method by observing that all commonly used skeletal elements are easily parameterized and can be used as their own support surfaces. In areas of a surface defined by...
